Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education comprising of Noorul Islam College of Engineering as its constituent teaching unit, has been declared as a Deemed-to-be-University by Ministry of Human Resource Development (Department of Higher Education), Government of India under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, on the advice of UGC, vide Notification No.F.9-51/2004-U.3 dated 8th December 2008.The University is run by the Noorul Islam Center for Higher Education (NICHE) Society with Janab Dr. A.P. Majeed Khan as the President of the Society.
The university campus at Kumaracoil, Thuckalay in kanyakumari District of Tamilnadu, is situated in the serene and lush green base of Velimalai, a spectacular part of Western Ghat Hills near the historically famous Padmanabhapuram Palace. It is only 1.5 km interior towards the foothills of the mountains from Kumaracoil Junction on the Kanyakumari Thiruvanthapuram National Highway (NH-47)- about 30 km from Kanyakumari and 60 km from Trivandrum, capital city of state of Kerala.
Noorul Islam College of Engineering, the constituent teaching unit of the Noorul Islam University, was established in the year 1989-90, with the approval of All India Council for Technical Education and started offering two engineering courses, namely, BE CSE & BE ECE with 40 students in each course. Since then the college has registered continuous growth in academic activities by offering more and new Engineering and Technology courses with the development of required infrastructure facilities such as building, library, faculty, computers the and relevant latest Software and peripherals, equipments etc., The following programs were started in subsequent years.

The educational institution - Noorul Islam Engineering college - established with a humble beginning in the year 1989 with two under graduate engineering programs with intake capacity of 80 students, has now metamorphosed itself into one of the best educational institutions in the southern region of India offering 12 Undergraduate, 8 Post Graduate Programmes in engineering and Technology, one M.B.A program, one M.C.A program and 8 Engineering and Technology disciplines for pursuing the Ph.D degree. Having attained the status of a University now, the responsibilities of the Noorul Islam College of Engineering have become manifold and vision broadened and mission lengthened. The challenge that we have at hand now is the challenge of transforming the engineering education systems of India into a system of nurturing word-class quality in the human capital development side by side with the development of intellectual and knowledge capital to support the country's march towards economic and Industrial progress and development. Consistently commendable performance, constant endeavours to promote research and innovation, earnest efforts to foster linkages with the industry and community, imparting expertise in essential areas and achieving excellence are the hall marks of an university. The Noorul Islam University, besides achieving these hall marks will also strive its best to realize its avowed ambition of reaching greater heights and putting higher and technical education on the right path and thereby accelerate the economic and industrial growth and progress of our Nation.
