The International Day of Yoga is celebrated world on June 21, 2022, to spread awareness about the benefits of yoga for health and well-being. The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, Kumaracoil has celebrated the 8thInternational Day of Yoga on 21.06.2022 at 11 am in the Hill top auditorium. Dr. A. P. Majeed Khan, Chancellor, NICHE, Dr. R. Perumalswamy, Pro Chancellor Academic, NICHE, Dr. A.K. Kumaraguru, Vice Chancellor, NICHE, and Dr.P. Thirumalvalavan, Registrar, NICHE graced the celebration with their presence. Dr. M. Murugan, NSS Coordinator, NICHE, welcomed the gathering. Dr.P. Thirumalvalavan, Registrar, NICHE addressed about the International day of Yoga to the gathering. The yoga expert, Dr.R.S. Sugin Herbert, AMO, Govt. Hospital, Thuckalay delivered a Lecture on benefits of Yoga. The theme of IDY 2022 –“Yoga for humanity”, 8 limbs of yoga and asanas were clearly explained by the chief guest. Dr. R. Dharma Raj, Physical Director inaugurated the certificate course on Yoga at NICHE campus and gave a brief details about the course to the gatherings. The chief guest, the yoga master, Mr. Ramachandran demonstrated few yogas and suryanamskaram to the volunteers and simultaneously the volunteers practiced the yogas and suryanamskaram. As a part the 8th International Day of Yoga (IDY), online quiz competition was conducted and about 602 participants were participated and received their e-certificates. Also mobile video contest on yoga was conducted for participants for age group of 10 to 25. In this contest, about 10 participants shared their yoga asana video and e-certificate were provided for the participants. The report on the International Day of Yoga was presented to the gathering by Dr.V.N. Meena Devi, NSS program officer, NICHE. Dr. R. Ganapathi Raman, NSS program officer, Dr. Sujin NCC officer, Mr. Rajapaul M, Assistant Physical Director, a total of 50 NSS volunteers, teaching and non teaching faculty were took part in the event.
