NICHE Central Digital Library

The NICHE Central Library & Digital Knowledge Network is the intellectual heart of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education (NICHE), serving as a modern, technology-driven knowledge hub that supports teaching, learning, research, innovation, and lifelong learning.

Spread across 1,654.77 sq. m. (approximately 15,000 sq. ft.), the Central Library provides a vibrant academic environment with spacious reading halls, digital learning spaces, Wi-Fi connectivity, and comfortable seating for over 300 users. In addition to the Central Library, NICHE maintains dedicated libraries for the Schools of Law, Nursing, Physiotherapy, and Occupational Therapy, offering specialized print and digital resources to support discipline-specific teaching, learning, clinical education, and research.

Collections: The Central Library maintains a comprehensive collection of over 100,000 print volumes, including textbooks, reference books, encyclopaedias, standards, handbooks, bound volumes of journals, theses and dissertations, institutional publications, previous university question papers (both print and digital), and other scholarly resources. The digital collection comprises e-books, e-journals, institutional repositories, research databases, and open educational resources supporting academic programmes in Engineering, Technology, Management, Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Pharmacy, Law, Health Sciences, and Allied Disciplines.

Digital Knowledge Centre: The NICHE Digital Knowledge Centre provides seamless 24*7 access to scholarly resources through the NICHE Digital Library Portal. Powered by the Koha Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) and Web OPAC, the portal enables users to search the online catalogue, verify book availability, reserve and renew library materials, and access subscribed and open-access digital resources from anywhere. The portal also provides integrated access to DELNET, INFLIBNET, Shodhganga, the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), IEEE All-Society Periodicals Package (ASPP), institutional repositories, previous university question papers, theses, dissertations, leading newspapers, and other national and international scholarly databases.

Smart Digital Library Services: As part of its digital transformation initiatives, the NICHE Central Library is evolving into a Smart Digital Library, offering a seamless and user-friendly digital experience. Students, faculty members, and researchers can securely access library resources through laptops, desktops, tablets, and mobile devices both on and off campus. The NICHE Library Portal facilitates online library membership registration, library token applications, document submission, circulation services, book reservation and renewal, personalized notifications, and remote access to digital resources, significantly enhancing user convenience and service efficiency.

Digital Infrastructure: The library is equipped with advanced digital infrastructure including high-speed internet connectivity, campus-wide Wi-Fi, digital reading stations, OPAC terminals, multimedia facilities, dedicated e-resource access systems, and remote authentication services. These facilities ensure uninterrupted access to academic information and digital learning resources.

Library Services & Research Support: The library offers a comprehensive range of user-centric services including reference and information services, circulation, book reservation and renewal, inter-library loan, document delivery, current awareness services, plagiarism detection support, research consultation, thesis and dissertation guidance, information literacy programmes, user orientation, bibliographic support, and remote access to electronic resources. Experienced library professionals provide personalized assistance to students, faculty members, and research scholars throughout their academic journey.

Physical Infrastructure: Designed to promote effective learning and collaborative research, the Central Library features spacious reading halls, digital library sections, reference and stack areas, periodicals and journals sections, discussion and group study rooms, OPAC search terminals, Wi-Fi-enabled study spaces, multimedia facilities, and ergonomic seating for more than 300 users. The modern infrastructure provides an ideal environment for individual study and collaborative academic activities.

Specialized Library Areas: To support discipline-specific teaching, learning, and research, NICHE maintains separate library areas for the School of Law, School of Nursing, School of Physiotherapy, and School of Occupational Therapy. Each specialized library is equipped with curriculum-oriented textbooks, professional journals, reference books, clinical manuals, standards, multimedia resources, and digital collections relevant to the programme.

Department Library Support: The NICHE Central Library operates a Department Library Support System by supplying essential textbooks, reference books, laboratory manuals, and frequently used academic materials to major teaching departments across the University. These departmental collections support classroom teaching, laboratory sessions, tutorials, seminars, project work, and research activities. The collections are periodically reviewed and updated to ensure the availability of latest editions and curriculum-based resources.

User Education & Information Literacy: The library regularly conducts library orientation programmes, user education sessions, information literacy workshops, database training, research support workshops, book exhibitions, author interactions, and awareness programmes to help users effectively discover, evaluate, manage, and utilize scholarly information resources.
