Clean up Drive

The Department of ASLP, Student Council, and Green Energy and Eco Club of NICHE, Kanyakumari, collaboratively organized a highly impactful clean-up drive at the Kumaracoil pond on 30th May 2024. The event saw active participation from students, staff, and local villagers, who together cleared a significant amount of plastic waste from the pond. Dr. M.L Nisha, HOD ASLP, Dr. Tibbie Pon Symon, Club Coordinator, and Mr. Suresh Babu. K, Event Coordinator, led the initiative with great enthusiasm.

Medical Camp

The Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, NICHE, in collaboration with NIMS Medicity, conducted a free mega medical camp on 28/05/2024. Various tests including audiological assessment, ECG, blood sugar, ophthalmological assessment, and more were provided to those in need.

Mega Medical Camp

In a joint effort, NIMS Medicity and Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education organized a free medical camp at L.K. Higher Secondary School, Kayalpattinam, on 8th May 2024. Specialists in General Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetology, Audiology, and more offered treatment and medical services to attendees.

Public Awareness Program

The Department Of Audiology And Speech Language Pathology, NICHE, organized a public awareness program at Vadassery bus stand, Nagercoil, on 20/03/2024. The event created awareness about the department's activities and clinical aspects among the public.

AWARENESS PROGRAM- “Let’s make hearing care a reality

Department Of Audiology And Speech Language Pathology, NICHE orangised anawareness program in behalf of hearing month. It was heldat the AC Auditorium, NICHE on 16/03/2024.The purpose was to give awareness on hearing care and its prevention. The programs were carried out under the leadership of 2 faculties from Dept of ASLP, NICHE.

Extension Activity at Jyothinilayam Special School

The ASLP department organized an extension activity at Jyothinilayam Special School, promoting inclusion for differently abled children. Students engaged the children in interactive sessions, games, and cultural activities.

Awareness Programme

Department Of Audiology And Speech Language Pathology, NICHE Kanyakumari orangised an extension activity at Shantinilayam special school, Nagercoil on 20 February 2024. The purpose was to promote inclusion of differently abled children.

Hearing Screening Camp

The Dept. of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (ASLP) organized and arranged a 2 days free speech and hearing screening camp in the ASLP department at Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education for the students of Malavika Vidya Kendram School, Kumaracoil on 08/01/2024 and 09/01/2024. People from the nearby locality also participated in the camp.

Extension activity related to the world disability day

Department of audiology and speech language pathology has organised an extension activity on 05/12/2023 at Jyothinilayam special school.Students initiated the event with game and cultural programs.

World Cerebral Palsy Day

Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, NICHE conducted World cerebral Palsy day on 9th October 2023 activities at Santhi Nilayam Special School, Erumbukadu, Nagercoil. The BASLP course coordinator Mrs. Vijaitha V Soonan handed over Memento to Sr. Jancy, principal of school as a token of appreciation as the school received "Best special school Award" recently. The program included skill training of Activities of Daily Living for studentsand cultural activities. Mr. Abhijith and Ms. Ashmi (BASLP staffs) and S5 BASLP students accompanied.

World Hearing Day

BASLP Interns of Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, NICHE, Kumarakoil celebrated World Hearing Day 2023 at NIMS SPECTRUM, Child Development Centre, Gandhi Bhavan Pathanapuram. Interns Exhibited Posters and took Awareness Session among the in mates of Gandhi bhavan regarding prevention of deafness, hearing loss and promote ear and hearing care. This day remembers the Legacy of Alexander Graham Bell’s birthday. Bell passionately sought to educate teachers of the deaf on how to help children with hearing loss and use the hearing Technology

World Tinnitus Week

Tinnitus Awareness Week is observed during the first full week of February to educate others on the symptoms and how it affects people. The Students of the Department of (BASLP) Bachelor of Audiology and Speech language Pathology, Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education ,Kumaracoil,Thuckalay prepared an Awareness video on Prevention and Treatment of Tinnitus.

Mega Free Camp at Government School, Thuckalay

A mega free camp has been conducted on behalf of NIMS Trivandrum on 26th January, 2023 from 9AM to 1PM at Government School, Thuckalay. The Staffs and the students from B.ASLP department, NICHE also participated in it and carried out a free speech and hearing camp for the School students. The motto of the camp is to provide an awareness regarding hearing preservation and various speech and language disorders commonly seen in school-age children

Awareness program on International Stuttering Awareness Day

On 22/10/2022 Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) students of Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, Kumaracoil, Thuckaly organized an Awareness program with the theme "Being Seen Being Heard : Representation and normalisation of stuttering in the mainstream, The theme highlights the fact that stuttering is something that affects many in society and is nothing abnormal.

Awareness Program on World Voice Day

On the occasion of World Voice Day, the staff and students of the Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology conducted an awareness program about the importance of preventing voice disorders, rehabilitating aberrant or diseased voices, training creative voices, and exploring the function and use of voice around the world. A short class was given by the students on the topic “Importance of Voice Preservation” to the staffs of NICHE Kumaracoil, Thuckaly. The webinar was conducted through online platform- Google Meet.

World Down Syndrome Awareness Day

World Down Syndrome Awareness Day was celebrated by the department of audiology and speech language pathology on 20/03/2021. This day was celebrated to bring about knowledge about the causes and speech characteristics of Down syndrome. Webinar was conducted to improve the awareness. Ms. Anjali, a speech language pathologist, gave a short discussion on the role of speech language pathologists in Down syndrome.

Awareness Program on World hearing day

Department of Allied Health Sciences had organized the world hearing day on 3rd March 2021. The staff and students of audiology and speech language pathology arranged a session on the "Importance of Hearing Preservations" online. This was carried out to make all students and staff about the hearing and hearing related issues specially faced by the adult population due to increased exposure to loud sounds and music. A poster presentation was done by the students to circulate among the social media.

A camp for faculty and students from the Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education, as well as non-teaching employees from NIMS, was also held during that session

Speech and hearing Assessment Camp

The faculty and students of Department of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology, NICHE organized a one day camp on Hearing and Speech Language Assessment (13.02.2020), more than 100 students of Malaviya Vidya Kendra have participated in the camp

Poster presentation

Vice President of the Maldives visited NIMS Medicity for Maldivian medical tourists. During his visit, the Vice President took a tour of the hospital's facilities, including the recently opened Child Development Research Centre (SPECTRUM), which offers comprehensive rehabilitation treatments for children with special needs. Students from the BASLP department organized a poster display to raise awareness about speech and hearing problems. The need for a speech and hearing department was also discussed, as well as the specific group who would benefit from it. They also discussed the significance of early detection and management.
