Webinar on “Role of AI in Autonomous Vehicles”

The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering conducted a webinar on October 4, 2024, titled "Role of AI in Autonomous Driving." Dr. Jeevakala S, M.E., Ph.D., Senior Product Technical Lead at Valeo India Private Ltd., Chennai, was the speaker. The webinar focused on the use of artificial intelligence in autonomous driving, discussing its current applications, challenges, and future opportunities.

PDP on “Automation using PLC”

The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering organized a Professional Development Program on “Automation using PLC” with Mr. G. Sunil Livingston, Product Promotion Engineer at Vintech Systems, Nagercoil, as the resource person. The program provided faculty with knowledge and practical experience on PLC and its functions, and saw active participation from faculty across various departments of NICHE.

On April 24, 2024, the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering held a seminar titled “Scope of Instrumentation Engineers in the Medical Field” at the EIE Smart room. Dr. B. Gopal Samy, Research Expert (E & I) at Feather Softwares, Nagercoil, was the resource person. The seminar highlighted the roles and opportunities for instrumentation engineers within the medical field.

Technical Symposium - ELECTROSIL FETE 2K24

The EIE department's student association, Global Association of InstrumentatioN (GAIN), organized the technical symposium “ELECTROSIL FETE 2K24” on April 23, 2024, in collaboration with the departments of EEE and ECE. The symposium aimed to enhance students' technical skills and recognize their achievements through various activities, including quiz competitions, tech talks, and more.

Industrial Visit to IPRC/ISRO, Mahendragiri.

On April 22, 2024, the Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education visited IPRC/ISRO, Mahendragiri. The visit highlighted key aspects of space technology, including national systems like INSAT, IRS, and IRNSS; launch vehicles such as PSLV, GSLV, and GSLV MkIII; sounding rockets; and the infrastructure for space development. The group also explored space services from India, international cooperation, and various space centers across the country.

Workshop on “Control System Using Julia & AGI”

The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering organized a workshop on “Control System Using Julia & AGI” with Mr. S. Amburose Sekar from PreIntelligence Research Tech Pvt Ltd as the resource person. Students learned about Julia programming, implemented control algorithms, and were introduced to AGI and its role in instrumentation. The event saw active participation from both students and staff.

Industrial Visit to Muthoot Wind Farm

The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering students from Noorul Islam Centre for Higher Education visited Muthoot Wind Farm, located in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu. The farm, commissioned in 1993, is one of the oldest and largest in the country, generating 100 megawatts of electricity with its 40 strategically placed wind turbines across 500 hectares, significantly contributing to Tamil Nadu's renewable energy sector.

A webinar on “Cognitive Radio Services” was organized by the department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. Mr. Rejeesh S Raj, Scientist E, C-DAC Thiruvananthapuram was the resource person. The webinar focused on comprehensive overview of CRS, covering fundamental concepts, spectrum challenges, and real-world applications. It also explored how CRS enables dynamic spectrum access, understand about innovative sensing techniques, and understand the regulatory considerations shaping the future of wireless communication. Workshop on Advanced Motion Control towards Robotic Applications

The Workshop on “Advanced Motion Control towards Robotic Applications” started with the Inaugural function presided by Dr. A. K. Kumaraguru, Vice Chancellor, NICHE and felicitated by Dr. P. Thirumalvalavan, Registrar, NICHE in EIE smart room. The Chief Guest Dr. Branesh Madhavan Pillai, Research Professor, BART Lab, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, Thailand delivered the Chief Guest Address. Earlier, Dr. S. Felix Stephen, AP/EIE welcomed everyone for the inaugural function. Dr. R. Sarath, ASP/EIE delivered the vote of thanks. The workshop gave a clear idea about various issues in Motion control, Force/Torque control, Sensor less based sensing techniques, Bilateral control and motion control towards robotic applications.

The EIE department organized a National Level Technical Symposium “INZTRIVO 2023” on 10th April 2023. Participants from different institutions actively participated in the events. The main motto of this event was to enhance the technical abilities of the students and to honour them with appreciation and rewards. Various events like Paper presentation, mobile photography contest, Quiz competitions, Tech-talks, Chess competition and other spot events were organized.

Two Days Workshop on Mobile Robots

The main objective of the workshop is to make the aspiring engineers acquainted with the conceptual as well as practical knowledge of Robotics. At the end of the workshop students will be able to design, code and build mobile robots for different applications.

Industrial Visit to VV Titanium Pigments

The EIE department visited V.V. Titanium Pigments (P) Ltd, in Thoothukudi, where they learned about the production of Titanium dioxide and other materials, as well as safety practices at the facility. They also toured the power generation station, production plant, and R&D lab, exploring advanced instrumentation equipment.

Seminar on Road to GATE EXAM

A one day seminar on Road to GATE Exam was organized by the department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering. Dr. A. Jegatheesh, MD, ALC Academy, Nagercoil was the resource person. The seminar focused on the complete details and preparation strategies for GATE Exam. Dr. A. Jegatheesh discussed on the scope of GATE examination, previous year questions, tips and tricks to solve problems, shortcuts to remember formulae, etc. Students from Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering and other departments of NICHE actively participated in the event.

Extension Activity

Conducted a one day camp to create awareness among public about seashore waste-management on 19th Jan, 2023 at Colachel municipality. The municipality chairman Mr. Nasir inaugurated the event in the presence of Municipal Commissioner Vijayakumar. The students and employees from the municipality took an oath to control coastal waste. A rally from municipal office to colachel sea shore about two kilometers was carried out to create awareness among the people. The garbage in the sea shore was cleaned by the students and handed over to the municipal staff for disposal.

National Level Technical Symposium EXPINS 2020

The department of EIE student association-Global Association of Instrumentation (GAIN) has been formed with an aim to inculcate innovation, organizational skills, leadership qualities, creativity, team spirit, professionalism and ethics in students. On behalf of GAIN a National Level Symposium “EXPINS-2020” is to be held on 2nd March 2020. Project expo on innovations in instrumentation & allied engineering, paper presentation, photography contest, Quiz, debate, tech jam and other events are planned to be held.

The Department of Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering organized a guest lecture on “Embedded Processors” with Mr. Yazim Khan M., Assistant Professor at Government Engineering College, Chenganoor, as the speaker. He highlighted the concept of embedded systems, explaining their integration into everyday technology, and discussed microprocessors, types of processors, their applications, and the differences between microprocessors and microcontrollers.
