About Audiology and Speech Language Pathology

The Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology offers the Bachelor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (BASLP) programme approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. The BASLP programme was initiated in the year 2019 under the Department of Allied Health Sciences and subsequently evolved into an independent Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology in 2024, reflecting its continuous academic and clinical growth.

The department is committed to excellence in education, clinical practice, research, and community outreach in the fields of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. The BASLP curriculum is designed to provide a balanced integration of theoretical knowledge, practical training, and evidence-based clinical exposure. Equal importance is given to academic learning and hands-on clinical experience, enabling students to develop professional competency and clinical confidence.

Since its inception, the department has been actively engaged in providing comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic, and rehabilitative services for individuals with communication, speech, language, hearing, swallowing, and balance disorders across all age groups. The department caters to a wide spectrum of persons with disabilities and focuses on holistic assessment and intervention approaches.

In addition to institution-based clinical services, the department actively participates in community-oriented healthcare initiatives. Regular medical camps, awareness programmes, neonatal hearing screening services, speech and language diagnostic evaluations, and therapeutic services are conducted in nearby hospitals, schools, and community settings. These activities aim to promote early identification, intervention, and rehabilitation for individuals with communication and hearing disorders.

The department is equipped with modern infrastructure and specialized laboratories that support academic training, clinical practice, and research activities, including:

  • Hearing Science Laboratory – for assessment and evaluation of hearing and auditory functions.
  • Vestibular Science Laboratory – for assessment and management of balance and vestibular disorders.
  • Speech Science Laboratory – for acoustic, aerodynamic, and speech analysis procedures.
  • Speech and Language Diagnostic Services – comprehensive assessment facilities for communication disorders.
  • Speech and Language Therapeutic Services – individualized intervention and rehabilitation services for children and adults.

The department also encourages student participation in research activities, interdisciplinary learning, clinical discussions, seminars, workshops, and community engagement programmes to foster professional development and lifelong learning. Through quality education, advanced clinical services, and social commitment, the department strives to contribute meaningfully to the field of communication sciences and disorders.
